Update on Bluetongue risk to your animals this summer
Bluetongue serotype 8 (BTV-8) is currently circulating in France.
Defra has released the analysis of risk to livestock in the UK which shows the country is at risk of an outbreak during the spring or summer months, with an outbreak in late summer rated the most likely.
The probability of incursion will change with weather patterns but is currently estimated at 33-60% in July and 80% in September.
So what can you do?
Vaccinating your stock would be advisable.
The vaccine will be available from mid-July, although stocks may be limited. Two doses of vaccine will be required 3 weeks apart. If you would like to protect your animals through vaccination, then please let us know how many doses you will need so that we can do our best to pre-order enough vaccine to fulfil your needs.
As always, if you would like to discuss this further please speak to one of our vets.
