Keeping your pet cool in hot weather

Our Top Tips to help your pets stay cool in the hot weather this summer:

  • Make sure your pet always has access to fresh water
  • Give them access to shade, particularly during the hottest part of the day
  • Walk or exercise pets early or late in the day, when temperatures are lowest. Remember, your pet won't know what is best for him/her, so may need you to limit their exercise
  • Consider clipping long haired breeds of dog
  • Pale coloured breeds can suffer from sunburn - keep them out of the sun or apply sunblock to vulnerable areas
  • Never leave a pet in a car or conservatory - temperatures can rise rapidly
  • Be alert for signs of heatstroke:
    • Excessive panting
    • Drooling
    • Drowsiness
    • Lack of co-ordination
