This Lantra approved three day course is structured to accommodate all skill levels, from those that have never trimmed a cow’s foot before to experienced trimmers who wish to update their skills and knowledge. The training course teaches an updated (for the modern cow size and environment) Five Step Functional Hoof Trimming Method. The courses provide more in-depth training and knowledge on anatomy, recognition of lesions, their causes and treatment, success factors for improving mobility on farm, and practical trimming on both cadaver limbs and live cows.
Day 1: A mix of theory and practical, with a cadaver-limb training session after lunch
Day 2: On-farm practical trimming/blocking training on live cows
Day 3: Further on-farm practical training and competency assessments
Completion of the course requires passing a practical and theory exam, and attendees will leave with confidence in both routine and therapeutic trimming.
