Shortage of Cat Vaccinations

September 2021

There is currently a Europe-wide shortage of some types of feline vaccinations which has affected supplies across the UK.

Not all feline vaccination parts are given annually so your cat may not be affected, your vet will be able to advise.

Tricat and FeLV vaccinations: These vaccinations protect cats against feline calicivirus, Herpesvirus type 1, Panleucopenia, and Feline Leukaemia Virus and are most important for young kittens. Older cats are less susceptible to these diseases especially if they have been previously vaccinated, and only require boosters every 3 years.

Due to this shortage, we will be prioritising the vaccination of young kittens with Tricat and FeLV. Older cats will still be able to receive Ducat (the cat flu vaccination - covering calicivirus and herpes virus) as normal which is required annually.

If you receive a reminder that your cat’s vaccination is due, please book as normal and your vet will advise on the vaccination parts we are able to give.

We do not have any information from the vaccine manufacturer when stock levels will return to normal but it is not expected to be until 2022.
