Services

Larkmead Veterinary Group is one of the largest pig practices within the UK. and is headed by Adrian Cox and John Mackinnon, who both deal solely with pigs and are recognised within the industry as pig specialists. In addition, all of the farm team are experienced in advising on pig health issues, with Julia James, Jennie Batt (née Sykes) and Liz Bennett (née Windsor) also undertaking routine advisory visits to pig farms.

In addition to advising our own clients, we are frequently requested to undertake consultancy visits on behalf of other veterinary practices who may require more experienced input.

Larkmead Scanning Services offers a pregnancy scanning service to pig producers throughout the UK.

In order to produce pigs competitively, pig farmers benefit from the input of experienced vets with a thorough knowledge of the industry, who can offer help and advice to solve farm problems. Most visits are planned on a quarterly basis and the approach is based on preventing problems arising, rather than waiting for disease outbreaks and then reacting to the problem. All matters relating to unit productivity are addressed and this is appreciated by an ever-increasing client base.

The Larkmead Veterinary Group client base ranges from international breeding companies, to family pet pigs - plus all manner in between. This includes many wet-feeding units, using food industry co-products - an area the practice has substantial experience in.

A large proportion of our clients keep their herds outdoors. Larkmead Veterinary Group have particular expertise here, but are happy to advise on any area of pig production, including the ever-expanding organic pig farming sector.

We have an excellent reputation within the pharmaceutical industry for undertaking high quality on farm trialling of novel medicines and vaccines, to the highest ethical standards. This offers the chosen farms an opportunity to get "one step ahead" in the control of problems on site.

In addition to advising on farm, our vets are frequently requested to give presentations at farmer and veterinary meetings and also to act as guest lecturers at university. There is also a farmer discussion group held at Larkmead approximately monthly during the winter months, giving clients the opportunity to share knowledge and discuss problems informally with the vet team.
